Dolph Overton Aviation Library

Major Aviation Research Library

One of the Museum's major assets is the Dolph Overton Aviation Library. The library is named in honor of Mr. Dolph Overton, the famous Korean War American ace from North Carolina. The library houses an extensive collection of aviation-related books, documents, photographs, pictures and prints, manuals, and over 100 aviation-related periodicals.

Currently located off-site in a separate facility not open to the public, the library is staffed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 4 pm.

Donate Aviation Related Documents

Despite the size of the collection, we are in desperate need of more material. One of our biggest challenges is to find and collect aviation documents, maps, flight and maintenance manuals, photographs, and books. Our collection also includes a large number of videos, DVDs, and older aviation movies ( military training films, gun camera footage, and other general aviation films).

Have you owned an airplane or were you a pilot? Any of your material would be greatly appreciated -- from old general aviation manuals to WWII memorabilia, it's all of great interest to us. No item is uninteresting to us. When in doubt, please donate your material to us. The Museum is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and donations are tax-deductible.

The library is a great place to volunteer your time. Headed by Charlie Wagner, the team gets together on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work on cataloguing and preserving this fascinating collection. At lunch time everyone often goes to Mr.K's, a great little restaurant near the Air National Guard. If you are wanting to help with the Museum, but want something different than aircraft restoration or guiding tours, the library just might be for you. It's also a great group of people who all share a common interest in the preservation of aviation. (Pictured standing, left to right are: Tom Russell, Slade Bumgarner, and Lee Johnston. Kneeling, left to right, Charlie Wagner and Claude Sanford).

Currently located off-site in a separate facility, the library is not open to the public at this time. The library is staffed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information, please contact Charlie Wagner or one of the staff at the address below.
